A milestone moment on the ice

Women’s hockey is reaching a new milestone as the upcoming PWHL matchup between the New York Sirens and the Seattle Torrent has officially sold out Madison Square Garden. The April 4 game is expected to set a U.S. attendance record for professional women’s hockey, with more than 18,000 fans anticipated in the arena, according to ESPN.

The moment reflects a growing surge of interest in the league, fueled in part by the excitement surrounding the recent Winter Olympics and rising visibility for the sport. For players and fans alike, a sold-out night at one of the world’s most iconic venues signals something bigger: women’s hockey stepping into a brighter, more widely celebrated chapter.

Seeds of change in Kenya

A grassroots agriculture program in Kenya is helping farmers grow more food while restoring the health of their land. Through a regenerative farming initiative led by Farm Africa, more than 60,000 farmers have learned soil-friendly techniques that are improving harvests and strengthening climate resilience, shares Positive News.

By adopting practices like crop rotation, agroforestry, and natural fertilizers, farmers are seeing yields rise by as much as 81%, alongside healthier soil and better water retention. The ripple effect is creating stronger harvests, reduced reliance on chemicals, and a growing sense that sustainable farming can support both people and the planet.

A new chapter in diabetes research

Researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina are exploring a promising new approach to treating type 1 diabetes by reprogramming the immune system to protect insulin-producing cells. With $1 million in funding from Breakthrough T1D, the team is using immune engineering to restore the pancreas’s ability to produce insulin.

Lab-grown beta cells could produce insulin while specially engineered immune cells act as “bodyguards,” to prevent the body from attacking them. If successful, the therapy could one day reduce or eliminate the need for lifelong insulin injections and open a new chapter in how autoimmune diseases are treated.

The deeper rewards of doing what you love

Leisure activities like yoga, rock climbing, or even tabletop games can offer deeper benefits when we pursue them with dedication over time. According to The Conversation, researchers call this “serious leisure”: a long-term commitment to hobbies that build skills, identity, and community.

As people invest in these pursuits, they often gain more than just enjoyment. They develop a sense of belonging, accomplishment, and connection. These hobbies become something increasingly meaningful in expanding our sense of belonging.

A softer side of European adventure

Europe’s most memorable places aren’t always the ones on the busiest itineraries. A new list from Condé Nast Traveler of “seven wonders” for 2026 highlights lesser-known corners of the continent, from Corsica’s quiet coastal town of Calvi to Portugal’s windswept Alentejo coast, inviting travelers to slow down and explore beyond the usual landmarks.

Across valleys, national parks, and seaside villages, these destinations share a common thread: space to wander with awe and experience local rhythms that haven’t been rushed by mass tourism. The result is a gentler kind of discovery, where the beauty of a place reveals itself slowly, mile by mile.
