When acceptance opens the door to resilience

After 25 years of living with multiple sclerosis, actress Jamie Lynn Sigler says she's finally reached a place she once couldn't imagine: acceptance. Sigler sat down with The Healthy, reflecting on her journey from hiding her diagnosis out of fear and uncertainty to openly sharing her experience through advocacy and conversations designed to help others navigate life with chronic illness.

Sigler says her diagnosis became an invitation to better understand herself, ask for support, and live more authentically. Her story reminds us that strength can be found in honesty, self-compassion, and the willingness to let others walk alongside us.

A famous helping hand for Ontario rescue cats

A group of rescued cats and kittens in Ontario recently received an unexpected helping hand. After the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton, and Halton took in dozens of animals requiring medical care, electronic musician deadmau5 stepped in to cover the roughly $30,000 cost of their treatment and ongoing support, reports Oakville News. Beyond easing the financial burden, the celebrity donation brought a wave of new attention to the shelter's work and the needs of local animals in its care.

Dubrovnik's most beloved locals

Among Dubrovnik, Croatia's centuries-old streets and stone passageways lives a community that has become woven into its identity. Stray cats have called the city home for generations and locals affectionately refer to them as Dubrovnik's "oldest citizens," shares Nice News.

What began as a practical solution for pest control generations ago has evolved into a unique relationship between people and animals. Today, residents, volunteers, and rescue organizations work together to care for the cats, while visitors are encouraged to appreciate them as part of the city's living history.

National Humane Society is dedicated to protecting animals through rescue, advocacy, and compassionate care – creating safer futures for vulnerable animals.

A MORNING ROUTINE ROOTED IN SELF-AWARENESS

Not all morning routines begin with meditation or a workout. Verywell Mind explores a handful of less conventional rituals – from chatting with pets to standing in a patch of sunlight – that people use to start the day feeling more grounded, creative, and energized.

What stood out wasn't the specific habit, but the intention behind it. So whether it's making room for laughter, quiet, inspiration, or focus, the best routines are often the ones designed around our own individual needs.

A more forgiving approach to beginning a meditation practice

A wandering mind isn't a sign that meditation isn't working, but often a sign that it is. Calm recently shared nine practical tips for navigating common meditation challenges, from restlessness and distraction to self-doubt, offering a more forgiving perspective on what it means to build a mindfulness practice.

Open your eyes, shorten the session, focus on sounds, or even take a mindful walk. Rather than striving for a perfectly clear mind, the advice encourages learning to notice where our attention goes and practicing the art of simply returning to the present moment.
