Caring for Those Left Behind |
When wildfire evacuations forced residents of Canada’s Northwest Territories to leave without their pets, Jocelyn Skeard stayed behind. As part of the community's emergency response team, she's been caring for more than two dozen dogs and two cats, making daily rounds to feed them, check on them, and keep their families updated, reports CBC.
Skeard says she'd want someone to do the same for her own dogs. Alongside fellow volunteers and local organizations, her efforts are helping families wait a little more peacefully until they can return home.

Spain's Unlikely Firefighters |
Eighteen rescued donkeys have spent the past nine years helping protect one of Europe's most important national parks. In Spain's Doñana National Park, the animals spend their days grazing dry scrub that would otherwise fuel wildfires, creating natural firebreaks in places vehicles can't easily reach.
The approach is simple, low-cost, and proving remarkably effective, shares Happy Eco News. As wildfires become more frequent across Spain, similar programs are now expanding to other regions, showing how restoring traditional land management can help protect both wildlife and communities.

Ghana’s next 30 million trees |
Ghana is aiming to plant 30 million more trees this year after surpassing the same goal in 2025. As reported by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Tree for Life initiative brings together schools, local communities, public institutions, and private partners to restore degraded land and protect forests, water sources, and livelihoods.
This year, the focus is shifting from planting alone to long-term care. Organizers say success will be measured by how many seedlings survive and mature, with restoration efforts already reaching more than 23,000 hectares.

One of our favorite things about this community is how honestly you show up. Last month, we asked you to tell us something you've been looking forward to lately, and your responses reminded us that joy often starts long before the moment arrives.
Thank you for inviting us into what you're excited about. Here are a few that stayed with us.
Something I’ve been looking forward to lately is slowing down and making summer memories with my kids! - Shelly
I am looking forward to my birthday. It’s the only day of the year where I let myself do whatever I want to do. I always take the day off of work and do things that bring me joy – like going to the bookstore and buying some books, going for a walk in nature, going bowling. - Donna
Looking forward to a weekend visit from a sister I haven’t seen in 5 years. Life has been busy and we both just made it a priority. - Dave
I'm looking forward to competing with my tennis team at the North Carolina State Championships! - Julia

Where The World Becomes More Personal |
For many young adults, understanding the world starts with meeting the people in it. Positive News explores how overseas volunteer programs are helping build confidence, broaden perspectives, and develop meaningful cross-cultural connections through projects in education, conservation, and community development.
While many sign up hoping to gain experience or travel with purpose, participants often return with something less expected: a deeper appreciation for different ways of living and a clearer sense of how they want to contribute at home. The experience doesn't promise to solve global challenges, but it can shape the people who spend a lifetime working toward them.

Borrowing a Moment of Nature |
Sometimes the closest thing you have to a walk in the woods is the screen in front of you. New research from North Carolina State University found that watching short videos of forests and streams can help people feel calmer and recover emotionally from stress, even when getting outside isn't an option.
Those who watched nature scenes reported feeling more positive than participants who watched urban environments, adding to a growing body of research on nature's restorative effects. While a video can't replace time outdoors, it may offer a simple pause for the nervous system in places like classrooms, offices, waiting rooms, or even at the end of a long day.
