After seeing a post about a pregnant terrier mix scheduled for euthanasia due to shelter overcrowding, actress Alicia Silverstone stepped in to help by calling the Helen Woodward Animal Center, which rushed to rescue the dog just in time, PEOPLE reports. The dog, later named Noel, gave birth to her puppies shortly after arriving safely at the rescue.
Twelve healthy pups survived, and Silverstone has since fostered four of them at home, using the moment to advocate for rescue adoption and spay-and-neuter programs. It’s a reminder that paying attention and acting quickly can change an entire future, sometimes in the nick of time.

LETTING LOVE LEAD
After losing her job just before turning 30, New York writer Isabel Klee leaned fully into what had always steadied her: helping dogs in need. By sharing the real, tender moments of fostering – from pickups, baths, and medical care to joyful adoptions – she built a deeply connected community that turned her compassion into a career, according to CNBC.
Today, she’s fostered nearly 30 high-needs dogs, raised over half a million dollars for animal welfare, partnered with major brands, and grown an audience of millions all while proving that purpose, patience, and storytelling can open doors you never planned for.
Scientists at Howard Hughes Medical Institute have discovered a way to gently nudge gut bacteria into producing compounds linked to longer, healthier lives and essentially turning the microbiome into a built-in wellness factory. In animal studies, this approach extended lifespan and improved markers like cholesterol and insulin, all by acting only in the gut and avoiding harmful side effects.
The findings point to a promising new direction for medicine that supports healthy aging by working with our microbes instead of targeting the body directly. It’s an early step, but one that hints at a future where longevity begins in the gut.

STRONGER FOR LIFE
A growing body of research is reframing how we think about healthy aging, and physician Gabrielle Lyon is at the center of the conversation. Her work argues that skeletal muscle, rather than body weight alone, is a key driver of longevity, metabolic health, and independence as we age, supporting everything from blood sugar balance to mobility and resilience, highlights mindbodygreen.
Lyon’s approach emphasizes building and protecting muscle through consistent resistance training, adequate protein quality, and sustainable practices that prioritize long-term health over extremes. Strength is about building capacity to live well, now and for years to come.
