Star power for student safety |
Pop star Zara Larsson surprised students in Portland, Oregon when she joined a local Bike Bus ride, just hours before her concert. The group cycling initiative, where kids ride to school together for safety and community, turned into an impromptu celebration as Larsson pedaled alongside students and sang her latest single, according to Willamette Week.
The joyful ride is part of a growing global movement promoting safer streets and community connection through group bike routes to school. Organizers say moments like this help spark new interest. It’s proof that a little star power can inspire more families to ride together.

Speaking up about men’s health |
A Philadelphia high school baseball coach is being recognized not just for wins on the field, but for the courage he showed off of it. Frankford High’s Juan Namnun was named the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association’s Most Courageous Sportsperson of the Year after surviving breast cancer and turning his experience into advocacy for men’s health, reports FOX 29.
Diagnosed in 2022, Namnun underwent a double mastectomy and faced the emotional and physical challenges of recovery. Now in remission, he’s using his platform as a coach and a national ambassador with the American Cancer Society to encourage men to speak up, get screened, and remember they’re not alone.

New hope from plant science |
Scientists have identified a naturally-derived plant compound that may offer a promising new way to fight one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer. Researchers isolated a molecule called DHL-11 that forces triple-negative breast cancer cells (known for their difficulty to treat) into self-destruction.
In the findings, the compound slowed tumor growth, prevented cancer cells from spreading, and triggered a chain reaction inside the cells that ultimately led them to die. While still in the experimental stage, the discovery, published in Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B, offers a hopeful glimpse into how natural compounds could open new paths for treating cancers that currently have limited targeted therapies.

A dog’s detour to purpose |
A Labrador once labeled “too lazy” for guide dog work has found his perfect calling in comforting cancer patients. Marcus, a gentle six-year-old black lab, was reclassified from guide dog training, but now spends his days offering companionship to people undergoing treatment, according to The Guardian.
Marcus works alongside an oncologist at a cancer rehabilitation center in Australia, where his calm presence often says more than words. Whether resting his head on someone’s leg or simply sitting nearby, he’s become a steady source of ease. Sometimes the right path finds you, even after a detour.

Finding stillness beneath the waves |
In a reflection on inner simplicity, The Mindful Word suggests that calm isn’t something we find by avoiding life’s emotions, but by learning how to meet them differently. The return to presence can reveal a deeper steadiness beneath cascading waves of reactionary thought.
Practices as simple as pausing to breathe or noticing the stories our minds invent beyond our reality can help alleviate those inner storms. The invitation is gentle but powerful: when we stop resisting each moment, we often rediscover a peace that was there all along.
